What we gonna do?!

My favorite movie line of all time has to be from "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" Everett, Delmar, and Pete were drugged by the 3 sirens.  They awoke to discover that poor, poor Pete has been turned into a toad.  Delmar is eye to eye telling Pete who he is when Pete jumps away.   In that stressful, stressful moment of watching his friend bump his bottom in escape, Delmar says it.  He says the line--  the line we Lewises parrot whenever anything is amiss.   Delmar looks at Everett and dramatically says, "What we gonna do?"

I awoke to a "What we gonna do?" moment with the kids.  We had NO power and NO water.  This is a very big deal to my children, and they were darn vocal about it.  Here's a few excerpts of the morning:

Somebody forgot to pay the power bill... Mama.

We're going to have to do this day the old fashioned way.

Mom, what did you do in the olden days when y'all didn't have power?

Well, we're gonna have to play board games all day long.

This is how Henry lived in Ethiopia.

Maybe we could play outside (said like a brilliant idea).

It's a good time for us to get to know each other.

And my favorite, said by Henry:  Lights no work.

Thankfully, the panic lasted only for about half an hour.  Every light in the house came on at once.  Power was restored and the kids cheered!  Then we had to go around and turn all the lights back off.   I'm thinking that Liliana and Henry went room by room during the outage to see if one was lucky enough to have evaded it.

Wishing you blue skies, cool breezes, and lots of power!

  1. I love it. When our lights go out, I drift from room to room trying to find something to do, only to remember that I can't do that because the "Lights no work."
